The flight to Lukla often gets delayed and canceled due to the adverse weather. The trail gets slippery, the soil loosens, and there are high chances of landslides,  falling boulders, trees, rivers, and streams. The Everest region gets frequent rainfall and cloudy days during the monsoon season and is not recommended as the best time to trek to Everest Base Camp.


The trail observes very few numbers of trekkers during this time of the year. The damp and clouds spoil the views and excitements of the journey, and the lack of stunning Himalayan views is the real issue while trekking to EBC in this season.

The Autumn season falls between late August to early November in the Everest region. You can enjoy the crystal clear views of mountains covered with white snow during this season. Though it is not the warmest season of this area, the temperature of the surrounding is quite moderate during the day time. Also, the night is not as cold as like during winter.


The chances of rainfall in this season remain quite low. And the dry day makes the trekking in the Khumbu region quite easier. The mild weather, green valleys, brighter sky and warm days make the trek more enjoyable than any other time of the weather. The night gets a bit colder, but it is a small price to pay for such an amazing and pleasant experience.

It is undoubtedly the best season to trek to Everest Base Camp, and the trekking trails are quite crowded during this time. So, the prices can be expected to be slightly expensive as well.

Everest Base Camp Trek in Winter Season

Maximum Temperature: 5-degree Centigrade

Minimum Temperature: -15 Degree Centigrade

Sunshine hours: 7 hours

The winter falls between the month of December to February in the Everest region. The region remains coldest in these months and is quite tough and challenging to trek during this time. The freezing temperature, high winds, and occasional heavy snowfalls often make the situation adverse for trekking.


However, there is still the option to trek to base camp as the temperature during the daytime are comparatively comfortable, and the sunny sky gives beautiful views of the mountains. The trails observe very less number of people during the winter. One of the major drawbacks is the extreme drop in temperature during the night time during winter.


Many routes to the base camp also get closed due to heavy snowfall, and the trekking duration can get longer than in high seasons. So, there remains less choice to choose the route to reach EBC.
