Built by 3 Sherpa Brothers

Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions was born from perseverance, tradition, and a lifelong love of the Himalayas. In 1998, Tandi, Pasang, and Sumba Sherpa turned decades of mountain experience into a vision: offering world-class Himalayan adventures guided by the timeless Sherpa values of integrity, compassion, and care. The name reflects their essence—Sherpa and mountains, inseparable through generations.

Proudly founded and led by three brothers — Tandi, Pasang, and Sumba Sherpa — the company traces its roots to the remote village of Mera, located in the Village Development Committee of Kanku, within the Rural Municipality of Mapya Dudhkoshi in Nepal’s Lower Everest region. There, the brothers were born, raised, and shaped by the rugged beauty of the mountains. From these humble beginnings, they carried the spirit of their homeland into every journey they guide, inviting travelers to experience the Himalayas through eyes that have known both its challenges and its wonders.

Orphaned of their father at a young age and raised by a devoted single mother, the brothers learned early the values of responsibility, humility, and tireless hard work. Every stone they carried, every trail they hiked, and every challenge they faced became a lesson — a testament to resilience, courage, and dedication. These lessons now form the heart of Mountain Sherpa Trekking’s philosophy: to serve each traveler with integrity, care, and the warmth of Sherpa tradition, transforming every trek into not just a journey through the mountains, but a journey of the heart.

From Stone Mason to Himalayan Pioneer

Raised in the remote village of Mera, Tandi Sherpa learned resilience long before he ever led a trek. Leaving school after Grade 10 to support his family, he mastered the demanding craft of stone masonry—helping build countless lodges along the Everest trail from Namche Bazaar to Phakding and Khumjung. Those early years quietly shaped the future of Himalayan trekking, long before anyone could imagine the role he would one day play.

In 1992, guided by determination and a deeper calling, Tandi moved to Kathmandu and entered the trekking world from the ground up—working first as a kitchen helper on remote expeditions, then rising steadily to cook, guide, and eventually senior expedition leader. Over the decades, he has led thousands of treks across Nepal’s most famous routes and hidden valleys, and climbed numerous Himalayan peaks, earning a reputation for quiet leadership, deep mountain wisdom, and unwavering care for every traveler.

Today, Tandi oversees operations at Mountain Sherpa Trekking, ensuring every journey unfolds seamlessly from arrival to departure. Having traveled to more than 17 countries, he brings rare global perspective to Himalayan adventure—blending Sherpa heritage with international standards of service.

Through his leadership, guests are welcomed not simply as clients, but as family—invited into an experience shaped by authenticity, safety, and a lifelong devotion to the mountains.

Pasang Sherpa – From Academic Ambition to Global Horizons

Leading Treks Across the Himalayas, Inspiring Every Traveler

In 1995, the second brother, Pasang Sherpa, arrived in Kathmandu after completing his School Leaving Certificate (Grade 10). Determined to pursue both education and his passion for the mountains, he enrolled at Saraswati Multiple Campus, studying commerce, while working in the trekking industry to support his studies.

Pasang’s journey in tourism began humbly as a porter on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Canadian travelers. His warmth, professionalism, and tireless work ethic quickly earned the admiration of guests. He progressed to assistant guide on camping treks and eventually became a fully certified trekking guide, leading expeditions across Nepal. Over his 27-year career in tourism, he has guided more than 2,700 treks and expeditions in Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Kilimanjaro, and Sri Lanka. Academically accomplished, he holds two master’s degrees—a Master in Business and an MA in Political Science.

Expanding his international experience, Pasang also worked for two years in Afghanistan at an American Army camp, gaining invaluable insights into logistics, discipline, and international service standards.

Today, Mr. Pasang Sherpa serves as President of the Sherpa Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal and has held numerous leadership roles in social and professional organizations. He is a Charter Member of the Lions Club of Nepal, Gaurishankar, and served as Secretary of the Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) from 2013 to 2015.

Known for his integrity, humility, and visionary leadership, Pasang has dedicated his life to advancing Nepal’s tourism sector while uplifting local communities. His passion, expertise, and relentless commitment have enhanced the experience of thousands of travelers and created a lasting positive impact on the people of Nepal.

An avid explorer, Pasang has traveled to over 37 countries, embracing diverse cultures and perspectives, which he continuously brings into his work. His leadership, vision, and indomitable Sherpa spirit make him not only a guiding force in Himalayan tourism but also an inspiration to all who cross his path.

The Birth of Mountain Sherpa Trekking

In 1998, Tandi and Pasang combined decades of field experience to establish their own company:

Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions.

Their mission was simple yet powerful — to offer world-class Himalayan adventures guided by Sherpa values: integrity, compassion, professionalism, and personal care.

The name itself reflects their identity. Sherpa and mountains are inseparable — a relationship forged through generations of living, working, and thriving in the Himalayas.

A Life Shaped by the Himalayas: Mr. Sumba’s Story

Mr. Sumba, the youngest brother in his family, began his journey from the humble village of Mera to Kathmandu in 1997—a journey that would shape not only his life but also the lives of thousands of travelers from around the world. That same year, he completed his first trek to Annapurna Base Camp with his brother Pasang, marking the beginning of a lifelong bond with the Himalayas.

From 1997 to 2002, Sumba lived a life of dedication and responsibility. During trekking seasons, he traveled to Kathmandu to work as a guide, and afterward returned to his village, where his mother lived alone. He supported and cared for her, helped with farming, and never forgot where he came from or the values that raised him.

In 2003, driven by a desire to grow and learn, Sumba moved permanently to Kathmandu to pursue higher education at Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus. Alongside his studies, he joined the family trekking company, where his dedication, integrity, and deep mountain knowledge quickly set him apart. Over the years, he earned the trust of valued clients from Hungary, Estonia, the USA, Canada, and Australia, building lasting relationships rooted in safety, service, and authenticity.

Sumba’s Himalayan experience is exceptional. He has led 700+ Everest Base Camp treks, 670+ Annapurna Sanctuary treks, 370+ Annapurna Circuit treks, and 500+ Manaslu Circuit treks, along with numerous remote expeditions across Dolpa, Manaslu, Mustang, Tibet, and Bhutan. Few know the Himalayas as intimately as he does.

Rising from the grassroots, Sumba understands trekking from the ground up. Guest safety is his highest priority—every high-pass trek is equipped with satellite phones, and every guide is rigorously trained. For Sumba, safety is not a rule; it is a personal responsibility.

Having traveled to more than 10 countries, he also understands Western culture and service expectations, blending global standards with Himalayan warmth. Today, as CEO, Mr. Sumba leads the company with vision, humility, and heart—carrying his journey from a small mountain village into every unforgettable experience his team delivers in the Himalayas.

Giving Back to Our Roots

Success has never meant forgetting where we came from.

Mountain Sherpa Trekking is deeply committed to supporting the communities that shaped us. Through our sister non-profit organization, The Mountain Sherpa Foundation, we invest in education, health, and disaster relief in rural Himalayan regions.

In May 2023, the Foundation awarded scholarships to 140 students across all seven wards of Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality, selecting 20 deserving children per ward through a transparent and fair process. With the belief that education is the most powerful pathway out of poverty, the Foundation has committed to continuing this program for the next ten years.

Our Founder Director, Mr. Pasang Sherpa, personally oversaw every aspect of the initiative.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mountain Sherpa Trekking provided support to more than 450 trekking guides, assisted families in remote villages, organized medical camps, and distributed school supplies throughout the Lower Everest region.

Our Promise

Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions remains, at heart, a family-run enterprise rooted in Himalayan tradition.

We promise every guest:

  1. Authentic experiences.
  2. Uncompromising safety.
  3. Sherpa-led excellence.
