Our Commitment to Giving Back
As Sherpa, giving is a core part of who we are. We believe that every journey we take in the Himalayas is tied to the people and communities who make these mountains our home. That is why we are dedicated to giving back—supporting those in need, uplifting underserved families, and helping build a stronger future for remote regions of Nepal.
The Mountain Sherpa Foundation was established with a simple but powerful mission:
to support deprived communities, low-income families, and vulnerable individuals living in remote Himalayan villages.
We work directly with local communities, listening to their needs and collaborating on practical, long-term solutions. Our goal is not only to help people overcome immediate challenges but also to empower them to improve their lives and livelihoods with dignity.
Education Support: Empowering the Next Generation
The Mountain Sherpa Foundation has proudly awarded scholarships to 140 students across all seven wards of Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality, between May 20–27, 2023.
Each ward received support for 20 carefully selected, deserving students, chosen through a transparent and fair process.
Education is a powerful pathway out of poverty—especially for children from remote, low-income families. With this belief, the Mountain Sherpa Foundation is committed to continuing this scholarship program for the next ten years, ensuring long-term impact and opportunity.
Our Founder Director, Mr. Pasang Sherpa, personally oversaw every step of the initiative, reflecting our deep commitment to nurturing brighter futures in rural Nepal.
Empowering Young Minds in the Himalayas

Mountain Sherpa Foundation proudly distributed school bags to more than 1,800 students, helping them pursue education with dignity, confidence, and hope.
As part of our ongoing commitment to uplift the communities of the Lower Everest region, we organized two major distribution programs in 2022.
The first event was held from February 25 to February 28, followed by a second event from November 21 to November 27. These initiatives reached children in some of the most remote Himalayan villages—places that remain close to our hearts, as they are where we were born, learned our first lessons, and lived our childhood.
For many of these students, having a proper school bag is more than a simple gift. It is a symbol of possibility. It means walking to school with pride, carrying books safely, and feeling equipped to chase their dreams.
Through these efforts, we aim to inspire a love for learning and ensure that no child’s education is limited by their circumstances.
Supporting Our Communities During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Mountain Sherpa Family Steps Forward in a Time of Crisis
The places where we live and work are not just destinations—they are our home. When the COVID-19 pandemic deeply affected the trekking community and remote villages, the Mountain Sherpa family took immediate action. We believe that in difficult times, true responsibility begins with caring for our own people.
Here are a few of the meaningful steps we took to support our community:

01. Relief Distribution for Sherpa Guides & Porters
On May 25–26, 2021, the Mountain Sherpa Foundation provided essential relief packages to 450 Sherpa trekking guides, porters, and climbing guides.
These were the heroes of Nepal’s trekking industry who suddenly lost their only source of income. Our support ensured they had enough food and basic supplies for their families during the lockdown.
02. Food & Medical Support for Gumne / Mera Village
On June 4, 2021, our team delivered food relief packages—including rice, lentils, salt, and cooking oil—to 42 of the most vulnerable families in Gumne/Mera Village.
In addition, we delivered critical medical supplies, such as:
These items were provided to the Chyangmiteng Health Clinic to help them respond to the growing medical needs of the community.

03. Food Support for Street Children’s Home
On June 6, 2021, the Mountain Sherpa Foundation provided essential food supplies to a street children’s shelter, delivering:
This support ensured that vulnerable children received nutritious meals during a time of great uncertainty.
04. Surgical Masks for Sailung Gaupalika
On June 9, 2021, MSF donated 2,000 high-quality surgical masks to Sailung Gaupalika, Dolakha, helping protect frontline workers and local residents during the peak of the pandemic.
05. Surgical Masks for Bhadighad & Helambu
Continuing our COVID-19 response efforts, MSF supplied 2,500 high-quality surgical masks to Bhadighad Gaupalika (Baglung District) and Helambu (Sindupalchowk District). These masks supported local authorities in safeguarding their communities.
06. Food Relief for Orphanage Children & People with Disabilities
On June 12, 2021, MSF provided food relief packages to 12 blind and physically disabled orphanage children in Kathmandu, ensuring they had reliable access to essential nutrition.
The following day, June 13, 2021, MSF distributed food packages—including 38 kg of rice per family—to 30 visually impaired, physically disabled, and mentally challenged individuals in Kathmandu.
This initiative brought immediate relief to some of the most vulnerable members of society during a critical time.

07. Food Support for Monks Living Outside Monasteries
Not all monks reside within monastery facilities; many live independently and rely on daily ritual work—funerals, house blessings, and religious ceremonies—to sustain themselves.
When Nepal’s 45-day lockdown halted all such activities, these monks lost their only source of income and faced severe hardship.
Understanding their situation, the Mountain Sherpa Foundation distributed food relief packages (38 kg each) to 20 monks in Kathmandu on June 13, 2021, ensuring they had essential supplies during this challenging period.
08. Caring for Tourism Workers
The tourism industry was among the hardest hit during the pandemic. In collaboration with the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), MSF President Mr. Pasang Sherpa personally distributed 75 sacks of rice to struggling trekking guides and porters in Kathmandu on June 15, 2021.
This support provided immediate relief to the mountain workers who have always been the backbone of Nepal’s trekking community.
09. Support for Underprivileged Sherpa Students
On June 16, 2021, MSF extended food relief packages of 38 kg each to eight financially challenged Sherpa students and families from remote Everest-region villages who are currently living and studying in Kathmandu.
This support helped them continue their education without worrying about basic daily needs.
10. Relief for Musahar & Dom Communities in Siraha
After an 8-hour journey from Kathmandu, the MSF team reached Siraha District on July 7, 2021, where we carried out one of our largest relief efforts.
We distributed food packages to 305 families belonging to the Musahar and Dom communities—two of the most marginalized and economically disadvantaged groups in Nepal’s Terai region.
As a gesture of love and encouragement for the children, we also handed out 300 writing pens and paper sheets, inspiring them to continue their studies despite the challenges they face.

11. Earthquake Relief: Standing With Nepal in 2015
When the devastating earthquake struck Nepal in 2015, the Mountain Sherpa Foundation worked tirelessly to reach the hardest-hit areas.
Together with Mountain Sherpa Trekking, we distributed immediate relief to more than 1,700 families in Sindhupalchok, Solukhumbu, Nuwakot, and Dhading.
Our team traveled to remote Himalayan villages, carrying help where it was needed most.
12. 3 Days Free Health Camp in Solukhumbu

Over 500 residents of Mapyadudhkoshi Rural Municipality-3, Khastap, benefited from a three-day free health camp organized by the Mountain Sherpa Foundation from November 28–30, 2022.
A total of 560 citizens received care, including 203 dental treatments, 57 orthopedic and medication-related services, and general medical consultations for the rest. Essential medicines were also distributed free of charge by a team of seven doctors, including specialists from Kathmandu.
President Sherpa stated that similar health camps, aimed at improving rural healthcare access, will be organized in other municipalities across the district.
13. Cash Relief for Melamchi Flood Victims
The devastating Melamchi flood on June 15, 2021 swept away homes, livelihoods, and hope in the middle of the night. During this difficult time, the Mountain Sherpa Foundation stepped forward with cash support of NPR 5,000 for 18 affected families.
Though modest, this direct assistance helped survivors cover urgent expenses and begin the slow path toward recovery.
