Camping in Bhutan: Camping can be organized in few nicer places within Bhutan to give greater outdoor experience filled with much more fun like organizing archery using traditional bow and arrow, khuru-dart, organizing cultural program, camp fire and even organizing private festival is possible.

Camping in Bhutan is combined sightseeing like culture and outdoor sports which gives prefect satisfaction after having paid whatever extras applicable. Camping can be organized in any of the places mentioned below for any duration. It is totally outdoor and no luxury services available unless you opt to stay in hotels.

Punakha: Located at an average elevation of 1350m, which is 72km away from Thimphu and takes 2.5 hrs drives offering spectacular camping experience. Fertile Punastangchu valley and many little villages around surround Punakha. Good place for camping in winter, autumn & spring.

Phobjikha (Gangtey): Phobjikha falls in Wangdue Phodrang district under black mountain region which takes about 5 hours drive from Thimphu and about 3 hours drive from Punakha further east. Phobjikha is famous for black necked cranes which migrate in every winter. Valley is also known as rhododendron garden, abundant yaks and cows graze during winters as Phobjikha is located at 2900m high but still low for yaks in summer. Good place for camping in winter, autumn & spring.

Bumthang: Blessed by Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche) in 8th century, the valley of Bumthang cannot be compared with any other districts in Bhutan. Bumthang has maximum number of religious sites and festivals which attracts many thousands tourists. Valley has an average altitude of 2650m and becomes quite cold during winters. Visitors often quote as “Second Switzerland” Good place for four season camping.

Haa: Located at the extreme central west of Bhutan bordered with Tibet in the north and Sikkim in the west, which has an average elevation of 2200m used to be one of the isolated districts until recently. Valley offers good camping spot for all seasons.
