Itinerary

If it’s a clear day when you are flying into Kathmandu, then your tour begins right from the skies itself. The sights from the windows of our jet shows us glimmering snow-capped mountain peaks spread out down below us, giving us the first thrills of our just begun vacation, sparking off a whole reaction of unforgettable experiences that stay with us for some time to come. As soon as your plane hits the tarmac of Tribhuwan International Airport, Mountain Sherpa Trekking office representative and driver will be on standby to meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. The rep will help you check into your designated hotel, and after going to our rooms and refreshing ourselves we will be briefed about our daily activities. The rest of your time is free to move around the neighborhood and get familiar with your surroundings. Your first overnight in the ancient city of temples, probably the most in the world. Breakfast

After a good night’s sleep and enjoying a hearty b/fast, we proceed for our tour of Basantapur Durbar Square. Recorded by UNESCO as a cultural World Heritage site, Kathmandu Durbar Square is a bunch of medieval temples, palaces, courtyards and streets that date back to the 12th and 18th centuries. within this square we will find Hanumandhoka Palace Museum, Taleju Temple, Kumari Ghar (House of the Living Goddess), Kasthamandap and other temples and buildings as old as the city itself; from here we head for a tour of the famous Boudhanath Stupa {said to be the largest in the world) and a major centre of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu. The stupa is designed to be like a giant mandala (a representation of the Buddhist cosmos).

We next drive down to Swayambhunath {popularly known as Monkey Temple} “Swayambhu” means “self-created” and refers to the myth that the hill sprung up suddenly from a great lake that once covered Kathmandu Valley. Our next destination is Pashupatinath Temple.

This temple is dedicated to Hindu deity Lord Shiva and is said to be the most holy Hindu shrine in Nepal. Hereabouts we see a cremation ritual of Hindus at ‘Aryaghat’, the cremation area of the temple. This cremation site is used for the once royal family of Nepal and also for the simple Nepalese people who live within the country. We then wrap up our Heritage tour with a trip to Patan which is one of the three medieval cities in Kathmandu and a destination for connoisseurs of great arts. We take a tour of the Patan Durbar Square - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the square is the Patan Museum (originally a Malla palace), Krishna Mandir- a stone temple of Lord Krishna with its 21 spires and art that  displays scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana epics, this includes the Royal Bath or 'Tushahity' and the nearby Hindu and Buddhist temples. We return back to our hotel, refresh, and head down to the airport for our short flight to the city of lakes - Pokhara. Breakfast

We begin our trekking holiday from Pokhara to Nayapul (1050m) which is a 01 hour drive, from Nayapul; our trek begins as the trail ascends slightly through forests to Ghandruk, a bustling village of the ethnic Gurung community who has their own dialect, culture, dress and traditions. Ghandruk is also home to many Gurkha soldiers. It is a well known destination for trekkers as it is known for its beautiful mountain views and also because it's just a stone’s throw from Pokhara and Kathmandu. The afternoon is ours to visit the Annapurna Conservation Office, museums and explore the interesting village. Overnight at our teahouse lodge – B. L. D

We first descend further along the trail showcasing rich rhododendron forests, splendidly cascading sparkling mountain streams and other magical vistas of nature that surprise us. After continuously climbing for 3 hours, we step on the territory of Tadapani at an altitude of 2590m. Tadapani offers the most awesome mountain views of the overpowering peaks of Annapurna South. We then crash out for the night at our lodge – B. L. D

From Banthanti, we hike at our pace further along steep trails. Nature displays exotic sight of majestic snow-capped mountain peaks, lush vegetation and rich plant life before us. We climb through rhododendron forest to Deurali [3100m] and reach a hamlet and cultivated fields. We then continue walking for 3 hours and finally we will find ourselves in Ghorepani. Ghorepani also houses lodges to provide food and accommodation to travelers. We bunk out at our lodge. B. L. D

Today is one of those extraordinary days because we top off Poon Hill - an emblem of Annapurna region. To witness the regal grandeur of sunrise over the Himalayas, we make an early morning climb along the steep trail to the viewpoint of Poon Hill (3200m). Poon Hill is a box office viewpoint from where we are able to enjoy brilliant panoramic views of Mustang and Pokhara valleys including the closest views of more than 20 famous mountains including the close-up views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The snowy peaks of the high mountains loom above and around us shimmering in the morning light. After taking photos and having some coffee/tea or hot chocolate, we head to Ulleri with a steep 2 hours climb and then level gently passing through the Magar villages of Ulleri at (2070m.) and Banthanti. On the way, we get lovely scenic views of Machhapuchhare or Fish Tail (6997m), Hiunchuli (6441m), and Annapurna south (7219m). Now our trail gets easier as it passes through forest and descends gently to Ulleri for the night in our lodge. B. L. D

Today we wrap up our trek at Nayapul followed by a short drive back to Pokhara. After reaching Pokhara, we check into our hotel, refresh with some drinks and snack, maybe even have a bath; and then proceed for a half day guided tour that will include visiting some beautiful places like David’s water fall, Tibetan refugee settlement camp and Gupteshwar cave in a private vehicle with a professional guide. We also do some boating on the tranquil Fewa Lake. We then will have a relaxing afternoon where we can simply chill out with some cold beers. Overnight at the hotel – Breakfast

After b/fast, we hang around for some time before our flight, and in this spare time we can do some shopping. We then get into our vehicle and head down to the airport for our flight to Kathmandu. On touching Kathmandu, our day is free to do our own things. For suggestions, you can do some valley shopping, or enjoy a thrilling scenic Everest mountain flight, or even mountain biking, there are a whole lot of other activities if you feel like it. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with a cultural performance by the local belles. (Your guide(s) and an office staff will accompany you.) Overnight at your hotel

After b/fast, our rep and office vehicle will be on standby at our hotel to transfer us to the airport for our connecting flight home. Serving you was a wonderful joy and pleasure, we at Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditionswill cherish the bonds of our relationship created over the time you spent with us and we thank you for choosing us as your travel partner and for visiting this amazing country Nepal. Vital information

******** Travel Insurance *******

It is a condition of joining any of our holidays that you are insured against medical and personal accident risks (to include repatriation costs, air ambulance, helicopter rescue services). We also strongly recommend that you take out delayed departure and cancellation insurance, as all deposits paid are non-refundable.

A relaxed trip is not possible without good travel insurance. In the event of any sickness or injury, the cost of emergency treatment and evacuation is shocking. Therefore, travel insurance is strongly recommended for everyone who signs up with Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions.

We strongly recommend that you be careful while choosing a policy as some make special exceptions for adventure travel. Before buying your insurance, please ensure that your insurer is aware of your MSTE itinerary and can agree to cover the activities being undertaken in the trip to Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan & India. Such as if you are planning trekking or climbing/expedition in Himalaya your insurance must cover emergency air ambulance/helicopter rescue including medical expenses.

For a group tour in urban areas, your insurance coverage of ambulance or helicopter rescue is not mandatory, however better to have with them too. Again, in Tibet, Bhutan & India trips there is no possibility of helicopter rescue, so no need to buy the air ambulance coverage. You need send us your copy of your insurance policy (e.g. your insurance certificate) or carry it with you while you come on the trip.

phenomenal guide for Ghorepani Poonhill trek

We had a great time with Mountain Sherpa trekking & expeditions. We did a 5 days Ghorepani poonhill trek with city sightseeing in Kathmandu and Pokhara city and both were spectacular. The company planning the trip was very helpful and answered all our questions we had. Our guides were phenomenal, and I felt very safe all the time.
We stayed in cozy lodge on the mountain while we are trekking and stayed at comfort hotels in City. We were treated like kings, and the guides and porters all took very good care of us. They were very polite and we felt very welcome. I would recommend Mountain Sherpa trekking & expeditions to recommend if you are looking for to visit.

“Once in a lifetime trip thanks to our sherpa and the trekking company”

It is so hard to pick a trekking company over the internet, and to trust that the one you pick and pay a deposit to is legitimate. I knocked it out of the park with this one. Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions was not only legit, they were consummate professionals, tending to every detail of my trip so I would be safe, cared for, and a happy customer. They surpassed their goal. I was ecstatic! My daughter and I trekked from Pokhara to Poon Hill and were awed in every step.

Our best of Nepal Trip- wonderful experience

Review Posted by:

Our best of Nepal Trip- wonderful experience

Our trip was booked through and arranged by the fine people at Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions. Our itinerary included 3 days in and around Kathmandu, the 6 day trek, 2 days rafting on the Seti river and 3 days on an elephant safari in Chitwan national park - all highly recommended. Mr Pasang Sherpa made all the arrangements and Mr Sumba Sherpa looked after us faultlessly for the two and a half weeks of our stay. We highly recommend this tour for all who wants to see Nepal well.
Our guide, Sumba taught us all manner of things about life in Nepal and showed us some incredible sights so it was only fair that we should in turn pass on some invaluable knowledge to him. During the many chats we had while Anne and Kevin toiled (and Sumba skipped) up hills and down dales, Sumba let it slip that, in addition to speaking excellent English, he also spoke a little French. Nepal is a popular destination for our European neighbors and, if you want business as a guide, you need to speak the lingo. As it turned out Sumba spoke really rather good French but he was unaware of the most important communication tool in the French language. So, without further ado, we launched into Gallic Shrugging lessons. A very quick learner, Sumba was soon a shrugging master.
By the end of the trek we were a fair bit fitter, in awe of the Nepalese great outdoors, charmed by the Nepalese people and, if truth be told, a bit smelly.

Would we have changed anything?
No.
Would we do it again?
Yes indeed. Maybe in spring, when the rhododendron forests are in bloom.
Would we recommend it to others?
Absolutely and without hesitation.

Best regards,

Kevin Laxton & Anne Tyrrell

Wonderful Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Wonderful Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Mountain Sherpa Trekking made me feel welcome in Nepal from the moment I arrived til the moment I left. Pasang's scheduling and advice were excellent and he knows the tourism industry. He'll save you money as compared to an American company but never skimps on service because it's Nepal and hospitality is what these friendly people do best. The hotels were clean and comfortable. I did the five day trek to Poonhill. My guide was Tandi Sherpa from near Tibet--he was fun walk with and I always felt safe. The porter was a hearty and robust guy, also a Sherpa. The view from Poonhill was spectacular. During my trip I decided to add one night at Chitwan and not only was Pasang accommodating, I was even able to bathe with an elephant! I recommend this travel service. You get a lot for your money and you never feel used, abused, or cheated. They really care about making your trip great, they'll tell you what to avoid and what are the better things to do. They're nice because they want you to come back, and because people in Nepal are just really cool and friendly. I hope to go back soon.
