Itinerary

Our arrival at the Kathmandu airport marks the entry into another world ... After the passage of Customs and baggage claim, our Airport guide welcomes us. This will be our companion for the entire circuit. The transfer to our hotel in the city center, 10 minutes walk from the Thamel district, beating heart of the city, allows a first discovery of the Nepalese capital, bustling and colorful. Buses, trucks, bikes and sacred cows intersect in a nice mess ... Free time until dinner

After a good night’s sleep and enjoying a hearty b/fast, we proceed for our tour of Basantapur Durbar Square. Recorded by UNESCO as a cultural World Heritage site, Kathmandu Durbar Square is a bunch of medieval temples, palaces, courtyards and streets that date back to the 12th and 18th centuries. within this square we will find Hanumandhoka Palace Museum, Taleju Temple, Kumari Ghar (House of the Living Goddess), Kasthamandap and other temples and buildings as old as the city itself; from here we head for a tour of the famous Boudhanath Stupa {said to be the largest in the world) and a major centre of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu. The stupa is designed to be like a giant mandala (a representation of the Buddhist cosmos).

We next drive down to Swayambhunath {popularly known as Monkey Temple} “Swayambhu” means “self-created” and refers to the myth that the hill sprung up suddenly from a great lake that once covered Kathmandu Valley. Our next destination is Pashupatinath Temple. This temple is dedicated to Hindu deity Lord Shiva and is said to be the most holy Hindu shrine in Nepal. Hereabouts we see a cremation ritual of Hindus at ‘Aryaghat’, the cremation area of the temple. This cremation site is used for the once royal family of Nepal and also for the simple Nepalese people who live within the country.

We then wrap up our Heritage tour with a trip to Patan which is one of the three medieval cities in Kathmandu and a destination for connoisseurs of great arts. We take a tour of the Patan Durbar Square - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the square is the Patan Museum (originally a Malla palace), Krishna Mandir- a stone temple of Lord Krishna with its 21 spires and art that  displays scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana epics, this includes the Royal Bath or 'Tushahity' and the nearby Hindu and Buddhist temples. We return back to our hotel, refresh & prepare for our trek baggage - Breakfast

We fly to Pokhara early in the morning. We can catch amazing views of the Himalayas from the right side of our airplane. Upon our arrival in Pokhara, the beautiful lake city, we are rewarded with magnificent views of the Himalayas including Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhare, the five peaks of Annapurna and others. After taking a rest, the day starts with a transfer to Nayapul which is about one hour drive from Pokhara, where we'll take the first steps of our trek. The walking is easy at this stage, as we stroll through the Modi Khola River Valley. We trek to the small village of Tikhe Dhunga to spend the night.

From Tikhe Dhunga we'll cross a stream as the warm up to ascending the steep stone staircase to the scenic, quaint Magar Village at Ulleri. After lunch, our route wends through glorious blooms of rhododendron and imposing oak forests. We'll move slightly upwards in the direction of Nangethanti before scaling towards Ghorepani for dinner and sleep.

We'll be up before dawn today, but with good reason: our day kicks off with an excursion to Poon Hill and an indescribably wonderful panorama of three Himalayan peaks (Dhaulagiri I, Annapurna I, and Manalsu) illuminated by the glowing rays of sunrise. From here, we'll also be treated to views of the 6,000m-deep Kali Gandaki Gorge and the visual border of Nepal and Tibet as divided by the trans-Himalayan ranges. It's back to our lodge for a late breakfast, and then we’re back on the trekking path! Our legs get a bit of a rest on the downhill walk towards lunch at Bathanti, which takes us through beautiful, deep forests, and then to Tadapani

More downhill walking awaits us today as we again trek rhododendron and oak forests. We'll arrive at the lofty Gurung village of Chhomrong by lunchtime, giving you a bit of time to explore the fantastic views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.

The trail out of Chhomrong descends via 2500 stone steps and crosses the Chhomrong Khola on a swaying suspension bridge. It is an uphill climb to Sinuwa. Next, we pass through a beautiful forest to Kuldihar followed by an easy downhill walk to Bamboo. Overnight in Bamboo.

Included meals:BLD

We pass through the bamboo forest which is damp and cold then ascend steadily with fewer steep sections. It is only after reaching Himalaya Hotel that the forest opens up and we are out in the sun again with astounding views of the glacial river below. It is a steep climb up through a much drier forest before reaching Hinku Cave. From here we can see the trail drop closer to the river before climbing again to Deurali, the most scenic stretch of the day. The vegetation is sparser, allowing magical views of the valley, the river below, and the sheer rock face cliffs above with bands of wispy waterfalls. Overnight in Deurali

Climb gently thorough a river bed then over a steep trail over to the mountain side. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous. From Machhapuchhre base camp we get excellent views of the majestic Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli and Gangapurna which is certainly a rewarding experience. The vegetation disappears on our way to ABC and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here, we get sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above us. The sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. From the base camp we again get to savor mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre, Annapurna south, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp.

An up at dawn allows us to enjoy again the unforgettable panorama of this unique site at sunrise. Vital information

******* Climate and Seasonality *******

Nepal is subject to monsoon which determines the choice of trekking areas depending on the season: Spring, from March to May is ideal to watch the explosion of vegetation, including rhododendrons.trek around the Annapurna to Everest & langtang would be the best choice. In Spring Season,Generally clear skies in the morning & marked cloudiness in the late afternoon. The more we advance towards the month of May (monsoon), the more clouds rise early.

Mid September to November. This is the main trekking season in Nepal. Day temperatures in Kathmandu are approx. above 20degC. Skies are usually clear and days on trek are sunny and mild with clear mountain views. Nights will be colder with temperatures dropping as low as to -5degC at the higher altitudes.

Summer Season Starts from June to September. The regions of Lower dolpo Trekking and Mustang trekking of Nepal, and nepal and tibet tour & treks can be done in the monsoon.

Winter, from Mid December to late February, the cold is dry, the clear sky, the sunshine ... Many benefits without the tourist season. For example, short trek like chisopani and nagrkot trek, ghorepani poonhill trekking,Ghandruk Village trek would ideal for Winter Treks.

******* Travel Insurance *******

It is a condition of joining any of our holidays that you are insured against medical and personal accident risks (to include repatriation costs, air ambulance and helicopter rescue services). We also strongly recommend that you take out delayed departure and cancellation insurance, as all deposits paid are non-refundable.

A relaxed trip is not possible without good travel insurance. In the event of any sickness or injury, the cost of emergency treatment and evacuation is shocking. Therefore, travel insurance is strongly recommended for everyone who signs up with Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions.

We strongly recommend that you be careful while choosing a policy as some makes special exceptions for adventure travel. Before buying your insurance, please ensure that your insurer is aware of your MSTE itinerary and can agree to cover the activities being undertaken in the trip to Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan & India. Such as if you are planning trekking or climbing/expedition in Himalayas your insurance must cover emergency air ambulance/helicopter rescue including medical expenses.

For a group tours in urban areas, your insurance coverage of ambulance or helicopter rescue is not mandatory, however better to have with them too. Again, in Tibet, Bhutan & India trips there is no possibility of helicopter rescue, so no need to buy the air ambulance coverage. You need send us your copy of your insurance policy (e.g. your insurance certificate) or carry it with you while you come on the trip.

“Fantastic and totally succeed trek to Annapurna Base Camp and Poon Hill, together with our three kids (12,10,10)”

We can strongly recommend Mountain Sherpa as your organizer of trekkingtours in Nepal!
From the beginning the company had a relevant, personal and reflective communication with us about possibilities for a trek for our family with appropriate amount of challenges, beautifulness and safety (regarding altitude). It was very easy to adjust the trek, with extra days, special transports etc.
In Nepal all Agreements was met, together with an amazing ability, to adjust and amend plans ongoing on the trek depending on weather and health. The succeed was not least due to our fantastic guide Sherpa Pemba Chhiring, who did an extremely professional job and in addition is a very nice person all our kids and ourselves have come to care much of. The way of being together with our kids was outstanding. We were also very satisfied about our two very friendly porters, and during the days we all became the team we had dreamed about. From beginning to end it was the best experience ever.
Thank you for a fantastic experience

Annapurna Sanctuary trek- My memory of life time treks in Nepal

Pasang Sherpa and his brother Tandi did a super job leading us on our trip throughout Annapurna. Our experience in Nepal was magical due to their excellent guiding. The trip would not have been the same without their patient and safe presence. I feel that their preparation and expertise allowed us to hike and fully enjoy the beauty region. They are extremely Knowledgeable, about the Himalayas and only used best practices when leading us during the 14 days hike. I whole heartedly recommend Pasang Sherpa and dream of returning to Nepal to hike with Pasang and Tandi again.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
